For the past week, I've had a really bad head-chest cold that has kept me from doing much of anything requiring thought.
Just how hard can it be to post one sentence a day?
I have recently discovered (and highly recommend) Liquid Tension Experiment.
We celebrated the end of my daughter's ballet season with a meal at Fuddrucker's tonight.
“Accuracy and diligence are much more necessary to a lawyer, than great comprehension of mind, or brilliancy of talent. His business is to refine, define, and split hairs, to look into authorities, and compare cases. A man can never gallop over the fields of law on Pegasus, nor fly across them on the wing of oratory. If he would stand on terra firma he must descend; if he would be a great lawyer, he must first consent to be only a great drudge.” —Daniel Webster
Lifted in toto from Timothy Sandefur's Freespace.
The "easy" five-mile hike we took yesterday actually ran eight miles over rocky terrain, according to the GPS.
A Boy Scouts camping trip in Oklahoma will keep me away from the computer tomorrow.
My wife's new hairstyle and color make her look like a new woman; variety is the spice of life.
My car spent the day in the shop, and I got spoiled driving a brand new rental car.
Tonight I spent some time at the Texas Pool cleaning with muriatic acid -- fun.
North Texas has been unseasonably (and wondrously) cool this Spring.
The perfect Mothers' Day for my wife started with a special gift (loaded with videos our kids made for her), followed by brunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant, a matinee showing of Speed Racer, a slice of Baskin Robbins ice cream cake, a nice hike at Arbor Hills Nature Preserve (in beautiful 75-degree weather), and leftover homemade fajitas for dinner.
Tonight we had a fajita and margarita fiesta, since Cinco fell on a weeknight.
Tonight I played keyboards with an old friend.
The category should be self-explanatory.
Over the past month I have finished:
Virtual Light, William Gibson.
In progress:
Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid, Douglas R. Hofstadter. I'm really savoring this one this time around. It's taking me longer to read, but I am breaking it into more digestible chunks.
Consciousness Explained, Daniel C. Dennett.
On deck:
The Martian General's Daughter, Theodore Judson
Extraordinary Relationships, Roberta Gilbert.
Suite Francaise, Irene Nemerovsky. My wife loaned this one out, so I'll need to wait to start it later.
Soul Made Flesh: The Discovery of the Brain--and How it Changed the World, Carl Zimmer.
Spook Country, William Gibson.
