Posted by Fred Kiesche at May 28, 2007 07:21 PMInteresting story. As an American I can only refer to this second hand, but there's quite a gap in England between country and city dwellers. Wells himself was considered somewhat disreputable by the upper crust, his stories sort of a pulp rag of the time. The tension he explores sounds like it crosses all those boundaries, but I'd say you're right about the connection to the "Future Shock" phenom.
