More Hammer!
David Drake has released a new issue of his newsletter, outlining various projects. Possibly the most interesting item for me is...
I am (by which I mean my agent Kay is) in the process of licensing a Hammer's Slammers board game to Mongoose Publishing (a large UK gaming company). They'd like to do a miniatures game also, but I told them they would have to deal with Pireme (which has the rights) themselves. Back in the '80s Mayfair brought out a board game; I have no idea how what Mongoose does will differ.
(Correction/Update—June 9, 2008: David Drake has said that he now has the contract and it is for a roleplaying game, not a boardgame.)
Good news/bad news. Good news that there will be a new game out, but Moongoose is increasingly resembling (to me) a pyramid scheme where they buy a new license in order to prop up the sagging sales of the old licenses. They have the rights to Traveller, Michael Moorcock, Babylon 5, Conan, Paranoia, RuneQuest...when does the house of cards collapse?
As you'll see in the archives, I'm a big fan of the Hammer's Slammers tales and wish I could find a US distributor of the existing miniatures game. I'll be interested to see what Moongoose does with the property.
